Eris
Eris's only known moon is called Dysnomia.
Dysnomia was discovered in Hawaii in 2005. It takes Eris 557 years to go around the sun. |
Eris was first discovered during a Palomar Observatory survey about the outer solar system in 2003.
Eris's surface is probably white methane ice, because it is so far away from the sun. Eris's surface is also the reason that Eris is a plutoid, or ice dwarf planet. |
Dysnomia is one of the only ways that scientists can measure the distance of Eris.
Eris is about 68 times further away from the sun than Earth. Eris, like Pluto, was going to be part of our solar system, until they both were known as dwarf planets. |
